The Umpires for The 2015 BNY Mellon Boat Races have been selected.
Simon Harris will umpire The 70th Newton Women’s Boat Race and the first of the new era. Harris rowed for Cambridge in the 1982 and 1983 Boat Races, both won by Oxford, and has umpired The Boat Race on four occasions in 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2010 – Cambridge only winning the latter race. He will be assisted by Judith Packer who has been recognised as a FISA Umpire since 2009, and umpired the final Women’s Boat Race to be held at Henley.
The 161st BNY Mellon Boat Race will be Umpired by Boris Rankov for the fourth time – having previously umpired in 2003, 2005 and 2009. Along with the Isis-Goldie Race in 2013 (also umpired by Rankov), The 2003 Boat Race was one of the most tightly fought contests in Boat Race history. Rankov won The Boat Race a record six times between 1978 and 1983. Sarah Winckless will act as Assistant Umpire having umpired The 2013 Women’s Trial Eights on the Tideway.
Rob Clegg, 2011 Boat Race umpire will take charge of the Isis Goldie Reserve Race, whilst Sarah Winckless will umpire the Women’s Reserve Race, Osiris-Blondie.
The BNY Mellon Boat Races will take place April 11th 2015. The Newton Women’s Boat Race and The BNY Mellon Boat Race will begin at 4:50pm and 5:50pm respectively.
